Alidou scores on penalty, Bennett adds ninth as Roses brat AFC Toronto 2-0

TORONTO — Marie-Yasmine Alidou scored the winning goal on a penalty in the 55th minute and the Montréal Roses beat AFC Toronto 2-0 in Northern Super League action Sunday.

Elyse Bennett, with her ninth goal of the season, added some insurance for the second-place Roses (9-4-3), who were playing thier first game under interim head coach Maryse Bard-Martel.

Shelina Zadorsky appeared to tie the game for third-place Toronto (7-5-4) in the 68th minute but her goal was disallowed on an offside call.

Roses goalkeeper Anna Karpenko faced 20 shots, including nine on target, and picked up the clean sheet.
