A tire deflation device was deployed and the truck drove over it. Police said the vehicle continued for several minutes on damaged tires before stopping on Sturgeon Lake Road.

The driver, who police said was holding a firearm, fled on foot and discharged the gun into the air while running away.  

Two women were also inside the truck, where one moved into the driver’s seat and tried to flee before the truck stopped at a nearby beach. The women then attempted to swim away from police, but officers entered the water and arrested them. 

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Critical Incident Response Team, Police Dog Services and Remotely Piloted Aircraft System were called in to contain the area and help search for the original driver. 

He was soon found hiding in a swamp, where a sawed-off firearm was also found and seized nearby. 

Thoren Daniels, 21, from Sturgeon Lake First Nation, is charged with robbery, pointing a firearm, multiple firearms-related offences, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, resisting a peace officer, failing to stop after an accident, carrying a concealed weapon, and six counts of weapons possession contrary to an order. 

He was also arrested on a warrant from Prince Albert RCMP. 

Keanna Knife, 29, from Prince Albert, and Savanna Mickelson, 21, from Saskatoon, are each charged with robbery, resisting a peace officer, possession of a prohibited weapon with ammunition, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. 

Knife is additionally charged with failing to comply with an undertaking and flight from police. She was also arrested on warrants from Prince Albert RCMP. 

All three accused are scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Aug. 6. 

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Warrant Enforcement and Suppression Team and Crime Reduction Team assisted with the investigation. RCMP also thanked the Ministry of Public Safety’s Provincial Protective Services and conservation officers for their assistance.
