Local retailer struggling to keep up with bug spray demand

Because the shelves empty out so quick, some consumers might think that they haven’t been able to stock bug spray for weeks despite checking the same locations multiple times. In reality, Rosenberg said that each of the locations receives shipments at different times, but each store is still restocked regularly.

“It depends which location you’re at. We have trucks come at different times depending if you’re at the gas station or the grocery store, but it’s a minimum weekly.”

Rosenberg said that it hasn’t gotten bad enough for Co-op to consider limiting the amount of bug spray a person can buy at a time, but it is a conversation taking place on social media.

paNOW asked the community to see what sort of home remedies people are coming up with, and the most popular answer came from Amira Bear.

“Vick’s vapor rub. Use it like lotion on your body. Can get the off brand at Dollarama or Dollar Tree.”

Another person responded saying it works, but recommended to apply it behind your ears, wrists, and ankles, and to reapply often.

Holly Ledoux also found an effective remedy.

“A lady at Batoche sprayed me with vanilla and water, it was more vanilla. Worked good.”

In response, another person said that they use the vanilla and water spray as a repellant for their pets.

After the interview, Rosenberg confirmed that two of the Lake Country Co-op locations in the city received shipments today including the Agro Centre at 4075 5 Ave E and the Home Centre at 275 38 St E.
