Check-in on five Raiders at NHL camps

Jonah Sivertson was named as one of the players to watch at the Vegas Golden Knights camp after getting drafted in the fourth round of this summer’s NHL Draft. They have finished both of their games in the 2026 Rookie Faceoff at TechCU Arena in San Jose where they lost their first game to Utah 3-0, but then won a 6-5 shootout over Colorado.

The other three players away from the Raiders are all playing with three different teams in the same NHL Prospect Tournament in Detroit. Michal Orsulak and the host Red Wings are 1-1 so far with a third game against Columbus expected to play tomorrow. Orsulak was in goal for a loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins, but did not play against Dallas.

Brandon Gorzynski and the Dallas Stars lost their first game to Detroit, and a score has not been posted anywhere for their second game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Their third and final game is against the Pittsburgh Penguins and fellow Raider Benett Kelly.

So far for Kelly and the Pittsburgh Penguins, they earned a 4-3 win over Detroit in the first game of the tournament, then won 2-1 in their second game against Columbus.

For the three drafted players, Raiders fans may be waiting a while before seeing Sivertson, Orsulak and Gorzynski back in Raider green.

Once the showcase is done, Orsulak will take part in the Red Wings main camp Sept. 17-20, so Orsulak will most likely not be back in time for the Raiders’ opening weekend. The Red Wings start their preseason on Sept. 21 against Columbus.

For Gorzynski and the Stars, their camp also runs Sept. 17-20, but they play their first preseason game on Sept. 19 against the St. Louis Blues.

Sivertson will join the Golden Knights for camp this week ahead of their first preseason game on Saturday against the LA Kings.

As for the two players invited to NHL camps, Boychuk and Kelly could both return in time for the start of the regular season.

For Kelly and the Penguins, he may be sent back to the Raiders after the rookie showcase ends on Tuesday. If he does earn a longer look at camp, he likely won’t return until camp ends Sept. 20. The Penguins play their first preseason game on Sept. 21 against the Buffalo Sabres.

Finally for Boychuk with the Flames, Boychuk will need to impress in Tuesday’s only rookie showcase game if he wants to earn a shot at the Flames main camp starting on Sept. 17. The Flames also play their first preseason game Sept. 20 against the Seattle Kraken.

Back here in Prince Albert, the Raiders get started their regular season on Friday, Sept. 18 at home against the Regina Pats.
