Sunday Eve Bridal Atelier: Bringing a fresh approach to bridal shopping

Originally from Zimbabwe, Clunie moved to Canada to attend the University of Saskatchewan, where she earned a degree in microbiology and immunology. After graduating, she accepted a management position at a bridal boutique while exploring career opportunities in her field.

What she expected to be a temporary job quickly became a passion.

“I wasn’t expecting to like it when I got the job,” Clunie said. “But I really, really, really liked it.”

The experience changed her career path entirely.

“I told my husband when we were still dating that I don’t see myself doing anything else for the rest of my life,” she said. “I just felt so happy every single day going into work.”

Helping brides during one of the most meaningful moments of their lives became something she couldn’t imagine leaving behind.

“It’s just sharing those special moments with people,” Clunie said. “It’s such a heartwarming time and I really, really enjoyed it.”

When she later moved to Prince Albert, she began looking at bridal shopping options in the community and saw an opportunity to offer something different.

“What they had in Saskatoon could be brought here in Prince Albert,” she said. “A little bit more up to date.”

Her vision was to create what she describes as a “big city feel” while giving local brides access to styles and designers that often require travel to larger centres.

Today, Sunday Eve Bridal Atelier carries eight bridal collections, including Eddie K, Justin Alexander, Lillian West, Calla Blanche, Lamour, La Perle, Oksana Mukha and Sima Couture. Dresses range from approximately $700 to $7,500, offering options for a variety of styles and budgets.

One of Clunie’s biggest priorities when selecting inventory was ensuring brides of all sizes feel welcome and represented.

“My mission was to start bringing in dresses that everyone fits,” she said. “Not just a size zero, not just a size 30, but everyone in between.”

That commitment to inclusivity has already resonated with customers.

Clunie recalls one bride arriving at the boutique believing her options would be limited. Instead, she found a dress she loved.

“I had prepared for this months and months in advance,” Clunie said, explaining the intention behind her inventory decisions.

Beyond the dresses themselves, Clunie wanted to create a made-for-you bridal experience like no other.

“My main focus when I opened this place was bringing that attainable luxury to Prince Albert,” she said.

Every appointment includes complimentary refreshments, including non-alcoholic champagne, along with the option of a bright, open fitting space or a more private room for brides seeking a quieter experience.

“Shopping for a dress should be celebrated,” Clunie said. “Whether you’re buying a dress for $7,000 or $1,500, it doesn’t matter and it should be celebrated.”

Although the boutique has only recently opened, early feedback has been encouraging.

Several brides have already found their wedding dresses at Sunday Eve Bridal Atelier, and Clunie says many customers immediately notice the atmosphere she worked hard to create.

“The dresses, the atmosphere, the vibe, the people — everything is just different here.”

The boutique is also currently the only retailer in Saskatchewan carrying both Oksana Mukha and Sima Couture collections, providing local brides access to exclusive designs without having to travel outside the province.

Looking ahead, Clunie hopes to continue growing the business and expanding its offerings. Future plans include adding attire for mothers of the bride and groom, as well as bridesmaid collections, creating a one-stop destination for wedding parties throughout the region.

For now, her focus remains on helping brides across northern Saskatchewan find a dress they love while enjoying a memorable experience close to home.

“I think people should just give us a chance,” she said. “They’ll be really surprised about what they see and how they feel when they come in here.”
