Several Sask. ferries closed due to water levels

Of the 13 ferries that operate in Saskatchewan, only three can take full loads, another four can take light loads, and four are closed due to high water levels.

Drivers attempting to use ferries at Hague, Weldon, Lancer and Estuary will find themselves out of luck, as those crossings are not operational at the moment.

Meanwhile, the Resort Village of Tobin Lake has cancelled a youth fishing tournament scheduled to run this weekend because of low water levels on the lake.

When asked by paNOW, Mayor Darren Opp said lake levels were deliberately lowered by the Water Security Agency because it anticipated a high inflow of water from snowmelt in Alberta’s Rocky Mountains.

“Due to the extremely low water levels currently being experienced on Tobin Lake, the forecasted high winds expected this weekend, and in accordance with the conditions of our permit for live fish release, the Tobin Lake AYA Tournament is unfortunately being postponed,” said the local Rec Board on social media.

Organizers plan to find a new date for the annual event, which will net the winner $6,000 this year.
