Woman alleged responsible for armed robbery and flight from police, makes first court appearance

Jun 12, 2026 | 11:39 AM

A woman alleged to have been behind the wheel of a vehicle that crashed into the North Saskatchewan River appeared very calm and collected when she appeared in court Friday morning in Prince Albert.

Destiny Hansen was remanded to June 16.

In connection to Thursday morning’s chain of events, she’s been charged with robbery, dangerous driving and flight from police.

Around 2:15 a.m., police received reports that a woman had been robbed of her vehicle at gunpoint in the 2700 block of Second Avenue East.

When officers arrived, they located two adult women who did not appear to be physically injured.

The vehicle had already fled the scene but within minutes was located  in the area of Marquis Road East and Fourth Avenue East.

After officers activated their emergency equipment and attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle failed to stop.

Officers observed what appeared to be a female driver, and a pursuit was authorized because of the violent nature of the initial call, police said.

The vehicle continued east on Marquis Road East before turning north onto 15th Avenue East and then onto River Street East. At approximately 2:20 a.m., the vehicle entered the North Saskatchewan River.

Police were immediately on scene and saw two occupants from the vehicle were in the water.

With assistance from the Prince Albert Fire Department’s rescue boat and an RCMP drone, officers located a 22-year-old woman on the riverbank a short distance east of where the vehicle entered the water.

Police identified the woman as the driver of the vehicle. She was taken to Victoria Hospital and treated for minor injuries before being arrested in connection with the incident.

The second female occupant was located later in the afternoon away from the scene and was not hurt. As part of Friday’s brief hearing, a no contact order was issued, meaning Hansen cannot talk to the victims or communicate with them on social media.

The Prince Albert Police Service Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate the robbery, theft of vehicle, evade police and collision.
