A person was seriously injured after a suspicious house fire in Cumberland House Tuesday evening, leading to attempted murder and arson charges against a 36-year-old man.

RCMP, the fire department, and EMS were called to a fire at a home in the community Tuesday evening.

The investigation determined that five adults were in the home at the time of the fire.

Four were assessed at the scene by EMS, and the fifth was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The house was destroyed by the blaze.

“Based on evidence police have gathered, it’s believed the fire is suspicious in nature,” an RCMP news release stated.

Justin Sewap of Cumberland House faces four counts of attempted murder and four counts of arson, and he will appear in court in Nipawin Thursday.

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Serious Crimes Unit assisted in the investigation.
