Golf season is officially underway in Prince Albert.

Cooke Municipal Golf Course welcomed their first golfers of the year on Thursday morning to kick off the 2026 season, which marked the latest start date for the course in its history, according to their Executive Professional Darcy Myers.

“Mother Nature hasn’t really cooperated too well,” he said, giving credit to their greenkeepers for helping get the course ready for play.

“A couple weeks ago, if you had asked me if we were going to be open, I would have probably said no. But we did have a couple of nice warm days and some wind, and our turf care team has done a fantastic job getting the course prepped and ready for play here today.”

He added that tee times filled up fast once bookings became available on May 8, while the driving range was busy when it opened on May 9.

Opening day comes just in time for Cooke’s annual Northern Team Championship, which is a two-person, 36-hole tournament with 144 golfers registered from across the province. The tournament begins on Saturday morning and wraps up Sunday evening.

“The forecast isn’t great but rain or shine, it is going to go ahead. We’re looking for a good, fun and busy weekend here.”

Elsewhere

Other golf courses in the Prince Albert area are also set to open this weekend, while others have already opened or are still waiting for the snow to melt.

Places like Fairview Fairways have been open since Mother’s Day, operating on all systems go with their golf course, driving range, and mini golf course all open. Rosthern Valley Regional Park opened on May 11, while the Hidden Hills of Shellbrook Golf Course had their first day on May 13 along with Kachur’s Golf Club for their men’s night. However, only Kachur’s back 10 holes are open at this time as the front seven are still at the mercy of Mother Nature.

Silver Hills Golf Resort and Mark’s Nine Golf & Country Club will welcome their first golfers of the year on Friday, May 15, while Elk Ridge Resort is open on Wednesday, May 20.

The Candle Lake and Waskesiu Golf Courses still don’t have a date set in stone, with Candle Lake saying on social media, “While it won’t be open this weekend, it won’t be long after! Date to come very shortly!”

Waskesiu, meanwhile, won’t see any action for at least a couple more weeks.
