City says discoloured water safe to drink amid seasonal river conditions

Residents in Prince Albert may notice discoloured tap water, but city officials confirm the supply remains safe to drink.

The City of Prince Albert said the change in appearance is linked to recent river conditions that have increased naturally occurring organic matter entering the treatment process. Officials said those conditions are typical in prairie river systems during periods of runoff and higher flows.

Despite the discolouration, the city said its water treatment plant continues to effectively treat and disinfect the water supply, and that drinking water remains safe, high quality, and suitable for consumption.

City staff said they continuously monitor source and treated water and adjust treatment processes as conditions change. Water is tested by certified operators and independently verified through accredited third-party laboratories.
