‘We will not be ignored’: CUPE workers rally outside Cockrill’s office amid health care strain
A longtime nurse fighting back tears told reporters in North Battleford on Wednesday that health care workers in Saskatchewan feel abandoned and invisible.
“Remember, healthcare workers were called heroes. Now we’re treated as disposable,” said Cindy Landrie, a licensed practical nurse with 26 years of experience who currently works at Battlefords Union Hospital (BUH).
“I have coworkers who are using the food banks to feed their families because their paychecks don’t stack far enough.”
Landrie was one of several frontline workers who joined CUPE 5430 — the largest health care union in the province, representing over 14,000 members — outside Health Minister Jeremy Cockrill’s constituency office, calling for wage increases after more than three years without a raise.
