Hobson and Gardiner both returning to Mintos; Mintos 4 SO Blackhawks 3
Heading into the season, the Prince Albert Mintos didn’t know if they’d get back just one of their two 15-year-old standouts from last season in defenceman Jake Hobson and forward Erik Gardiner from their respective Western Hockey League teams.
As it turns out, they’ll somehow get both.
The Mintos’ 4-3 shootout victory over the Beardy’s Blackhawks Tuesday at the Art Hauser Centre was Hobson’s second day back after spending the preseason with the Portland Winterhawks. The Winterhawks drafted Hobson in the third round of the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft.
Mintos head coach Tim Leonard said he got a call from Gardiner with the news that the Regina Pats reassigned Gardiner, the Pats’ 2014 second rounder, back to the Mintos on Tuesday afternoon. Leonard added that he and Gardiner will likely have a one-on-one meeting on Wednesday to discuss their plans for the season with each other.
