The Victoria Hospital Foundation, along with the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Canada helped the Victoria Regional Hospital open a new family room in their Pediatric Unit.

The new family room is a private room that looks like a welcoming and comfortable living room where parents can go to unwind.

“Today is a wonderful day for moms and dads and children right across northern and central Saskatchewan,” said Rob Dalziel, executive director for the Victoria Hospital Foundation.

“It’s relaxing, it means a lot. We’re thankful for it; it gets our mind off of things for a few minutes and worrying about our kid,” said Chantell Belly, a mother who appreciates the addition.

“When families have a very sick child, or a critically or in some cases terminally ill child, it’s nice for mom and dad to have a place to step away and decompress,” Dalziel said.

He said they’ve had tremendous support from McDonald restaurant owners and operators Ken and Jan Malenfant along with the hospital. He said everyone came together to put this together and it’s something to be proud of.

Ken said to help the community is key.

“We support the Ronald McDonald House in Saskatoon which supports Prince Albert and north families, but we thought this would be a great way to give back directly to Prince Albert and we knew there was a need here at the hospital.”

Those who attended the opening said it was a wonderful room and it’s going to be enjoyable for families to use and support them.

“The room doesn’t feel like you’re in a hospital,” said Jan.
