A 24-year-old man was charged with first-degree murder in connection with a death and a stabbing, both of which occurred Friday on Red Earth Cree Nation.

Carrot River RCMP responded to a complaint of a stabbing shortly after midnight Dec. 10. An injured adult male victim was transported from a Red Earth residence to a Nipawin hospital. He was treated by hospital staff and released.

While responding to the initial call, RCMP officers received a call to a second Red Earth residence where they located an unresponsive male victim, later identified as Ramsey Whitehead, 29. RCMP and EMS staff attempted to administer first aid to Whitehead, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for today in Saskatoon.

Davis Demery Lester Whitehead, 24, was arrested in connection with the two incidents. He was charged with first-degree murder, as well as aggravated assault. Whitehead was remanded into custody, and is scheduled to make his first appearance tomorrow morning in a Melfort Provincial Court.
