According to statistics provided by the Prince Albert Police Service, drivers may need a lesson on how to behave in a school zone.
From Sept. 1 to Sept. 25, police issued 89 tickets related to people speeding in school zones. This compares to 60 for all of September last year.
The legal speed limit in a school zone is 30 kilometres per hour. Fines for speeding through a school zone start at $240 if someone is going 40 km/h, but jumps quickly to $310 if they are going 50km/h.
Earlier this month, Prince Albert Mayor Greg Dionne told paNOW he wanted more traffic calming devices in place around the city like the raised crosswalks at Ecole Vickers.
