The rains came down and two flooded Prince Albert schools are still feeling it

The heavy rain and flash flooding that had Prince Albert residents canoeing down some streets in June is still impacting two schools in the city.

Neither St. Francis nor St. Mary Schools are back to normal, Lorel Trumier, Director of Education for the Prince Albert Catholic School Division told paNOW.

“The day care is our first priority to restore but it won’t be restored for quite some time. We’re hoping for December,” said Trumier.

Along with the day care, the lecture theatre and music room were both flooded. Music classes have been changed to a different room.

Classes that would have been in the lecture theatre also found a new location, but the school’s theatre production will be at the EA Rawlinson Centre.

Everything has been removed from the damaged areas and crews are working on restoration.

Meanwhile the gym floor at St. Francis started bubbling up after the heavy rain and has now been ripped up.

Fortunately for the division, a local company called Centaur Flooring is one of very few that work on gym floors and is able to replace it.

That job is scheduled for the week of September 18.

Because the entire floor is currently ripped up, students have been doing gym class outside.

“The focus right now is having other gyms being used for competitive play that’s going to happen for volleyball and that kind of thing,” she said.

Damages were covered by insurance for both schools.
