Saskatchewan’s best come to P.A. for Northern Team Championships

Some of the best golfers from across the province came to Prince Albert over the long weekend for the Northern Team Championships.

Cooke Municipal Golf Course was the backdrop for the big event with close to 60 teams participating.

“We had a full field competing and we had a great golf course to play, and the weather cooperated,” said head professional at Cooke, Darcy Myers. “All-in-all it was a really successful weekend.”

The team consisting of Bryan Matkowski and Denver Grolla of Saskatoon won the tournament with a final score of -15. However, some local talent wasn’t that far behind.

“We had a couple of local teams that finished second and third, just a couple strokes behind,” said Myers. “It was a very strong field, lots of good players in this event.”

Next up for the local course is the Ladies Northern Championships which brings some of Saskatchewan’s best amateur golfers to P.A. That tournament is set to run June 3 to 4.
