No discussion on adventure park concept as council sends request to committee

A request from local developers who want to build an adventure park in Prince Albert did not get the favourable reaction they were looking for.

Council did not discuss the application during its executive committee meeting Monday.

That means the request will go to the operations committee, but what happens from there remains undetermined.

The applicants, Lori-Anne Bayda and Trevor Holliday, want to build an outdoor go-kart track as phase one, followed by a slingshot gallery and a nine-hole mini-golf course.

Before investing in a feasibility study, then applying to rezone the land, the pair wanted to gauge council support through a motion.

Several letters of opposition were received from area residents and added to Monday’s agenda.

“We are strongly opposed to this development. This is a residential area,” wrote Karen and Michael Ruszkowski. “We have a very short time in the summer months when we can enjoy the outdoors.”

They wrote that increased traffic to the park and the sound of go-karts would be disruptive.

Carol Yeo wrote that the proposed use does not fit the country residential zoning in the area.

“I believe the proposal should have been stopped in its tracks with a firm ‘no’ when first approached,” she wrote.

The concerns were echoed in letters from Janice Northey, Denton and Erin Yeo, and Kevin and Lorelle Meyer.
