P.A. comes out strong for McHappy Day

May 10, 2023 | 3:32 PM

It was a special day for those who visited the local McDonald’s on Wednesday.

May 10 is McHappy Day, an annual event where a portion of proceeds at McDonald’s restaurants will go to support Ronald McDonald House Charities.

The charities help support families of sick kids who are undergoing treatment in hospital. The charity operates a house in Saskatoon and the Family Room at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert.

Manager of the Family Room, Nadia Balytska, said over 28,000 families have been served by the House and the Family Room since 1985.

“We try our best to support families in every possible way,” she said. “Just try to reduce their emotional and financial stress.”

The P.A. Family Room has been in Victoria Hospital since 2016.

The McDonald’s on 2nd Ave and Marquis was certainly busy on Wednesday, where Andy Cohen of Power 99 was live on location.

The day featured special performances by musicians Taya Lebel, Morgan Desjardins, Josh Stumpf and Mercy Glover.

Balytska said she was grateful for the support she saw on Wednesday and is thankful for the continued support McDonald’s has given the RMHC.

She added that they’re always looking for volunteers for the Family Room and donations. You can find more details at RMH.sk.ca.
