Discipline issues plague Raiders in Regina loss

After already having lost five of their last six games, the Prince Albert Raiders were in Regina on Friday night looking to avoid their second three-game losing streak of the season. Instead, the Raiders would be handed a 5-1 loss at the hands of the Pats.

In the first few minutes of the game, the Raiders went to the penalty kill and scored. At the 5:41, Liam Pie had already tried setting up a couple plays and had the puck come back to him, and this time around he fired from the right side faceoff dot to give the Pats the lead.

Then at 7:32, the Pats scored again with a shot from the middle of the slot from Connor Bear.

Then the Raiders were issued a full two minute 5-on-3 penalty kill, and that resulted in another goal for the Pats at the 9:45 mark when Zach Lansard was set up for a onetimer in the left corner.

After 1: Raiders 0 – 3 Pats, shots 11-6 Pats

The Pats extended their lead at the 7:05 mark of the second period when they got away on a 2-on-1. Maddox Schultz sent a pass from the left to Zach Lansard on the right, and Lansard returned the feed behind the defencemen for Schultz to tip in.

The Raiders got their lone goal of the game 9:22 into the third. As the Pats were trying to clear the puck out of their zone, it took a bounce to Brandon Gorzynski at the top of the slot. Gorzynski fired a onetimer that went off a defender, off Eli Molde’s shin, and Molde had unexpectedly scored his first in the WHL.

After 2: Raiders 1 – 4 Pats, shots 10-8 Raiders, 19-10 Pats overall

At 10:42, the Pats scored their final goal of the night and their third powerplay goal when Matt Paranych fired a shot through the middle of the slot and it found the back of the net.

Shortly after, Jonah Sivertson dropped the gloves with Aiden Wagner, but Sivertson somehow ended up with an extra penalty for having his helmet ripped off, and the Raiders had another penalty to kill before the end of the game.

FINAL: Raiders 1 – 5 Pats, shots 10-7 Pats, 29-23 Pats overall

The Raiders are back in action Saturday night when they head to Moose Jaw to take on the Warriors.
