Melfort woman finishes London Marathon, close to finishing all world’s major marathons

Apr 24, 2023 | 5:00 PM

A Melfort woman is one step closer to completing all the world’s most famous marathons.

Robyn Luthi finished the London Marathon over the weekend, marking the fourth Abbott World Marathon Major she’s competed in. This includes the Boston Marathon, Chicago Marathon, and Berlin Marathon.

She told northeastNOW the sights were just as exciting as the race.

“You run on the Tower Bridge, you run past the Tower of London, and you end in front of Buckingham Palace,” she said.

It’s safe to say Luthi didn’t slow down to enjoy the sights as she ended up posting a time of 3:03:00, a new personal best. Her previous record was 3:04:35 which she set at last year’s Berlin Marathon.

While she didn’t finish under three hours, another goal of hers, she was still proud of her effort.

“I’m happy with the way I ran it, just knowing that I’m still continually getting faster,” she said.

Luthi still has to finish two more marathons to officially complete all of the Abbott World Marathon Majors.

She has secured a spot in next year’s Tokyo Marathon with hopes of competing in the 2024 New York City Marathon.

In the meantime, Luthi will be competing in the 2023 AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group World Championships happening this October in Chicago. She earned her spot after strong showings at the Berlin Marathon and the 2022 Boston Marathon.

“I’m just going to take a month off and then get back at it,” she added.

Her impressive finish at the London Marathon has also secured her a spot in next year’s World Championships, however, she hasn’t decided if she wants to compete in it at this time.
