Prince Albert bowlers punch tickets for nationals

The Canadian Five Pin Bowlers Association Open Nationals will be held next month and a number of players from Prince Albert have earned their right to compete.

The qualifying event, the Great Western Open Provincials, was held this past weekend in Saskatoon. Gold medals were required to advance.

Prince Albert’s ladies’ team, which consists of Dawn Mardell, Shaunna Litwin, Carol Paetsch, Cora-Lee White-Furi, Pauline Lorenz, and Shawna Boyer-Kirkham won gold. Over 12 games, the team’s total score was 12,679, which represented 62 pts.

Finishing second was Saskatoon with 60 pts., followed by Team South.

On the men’s side, Prince Albert finished third, while in the mixed division, Prince Albert’s team came second.

Also headed to Nationals is Brian Earl, who finished first in the Men’s single event. Earl’s average over 10 games was 265.80. His seventh game was his best, scoring a 373.

Prince Albert’s Pauline Lorenz finished fourth amongst the women.

Brian Earl, Sean Dieno and Meirah Bender also all made all-star teams for the tournament (top six high averages).

The Canadian Open Championship runs from May 30 to June 3 in Edmonton.
