Alleged drug traffickers enter not guilty pleas

Two women accused of possessing methamphetamine and cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, while riding in a stolen vehicle, are maintaining their innocence and have elected to face trial.

Hailey Okemow and Karalyn Naytowhow were not present when their matters were discussed Thursday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court. Not guilty pleas were entered on their behalf.

On the morning of Feb. 8, Prince Albert police officers on patrol identified a vehicle that was reported stolen, then performed a traffic stop in the 900 block of 13th St. W.

Upon further investigation, police located just over 60 grams of methamphetamine, more than 10 grams of cocaine, and a machete.

Okemow and Naytowhow were each charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, as well as possession of stolen property in excess of $5,000.

Okemow was further charged with obstruction of a peace officer (providing false name), and breach of a court order.

The trial date has been scheduled for Oct. 3 at provincial court.

Okemow also has a number of other outstanding charges, including some related to a drug bust last December at Montreal Lake Cree Nation.

Methamphetamine, gun parts, cash and drug trafficking paraphernalia were found at a residence on the reserve. Okemow was one of two people arrested.

Those charges will be spoken to on Monday at provincial court.
