Raiders host Blades to wrap up home-and-home

The Prince Albert Raiders (24-28-3-0) look to sweep the home-and-home weekend Saturday when they put their five-game win streak on the line and welcome the Saskatoon Blades (37-13-4-1) at the Art Hauser Centre.

Game one ended in a thrilling finish for the Raiders as they erased a 4-1 and 5-2 deficit in the third period to come back and stun the Blades 6-5 in overtime. As a result of the loss, Saskatoon failed to clinch a spot in the playoffs.

Meanwhile, the Raiders inch closer to the playoffs and now sit just four points back of eighth place for the final playoff spot in the East with 13 games remaining on the schedule. As of Friday, Calgary, Medicine Hat, Swift Current, Brandon, and Prince Albert are all within four points of each other in the standings with the Hitmen and Tigers currently holding the seventh and eighth spots.

After Friday,, the Green and Gold will get a few nights off before the Red Deer Rebels pay a visit to the Art Hauser Centre for the final time this season on Tuesday night.

An updated look at the Eastern Conference standings heading into tonight’s contest.

Who to Watch

Assistant captain Sloan Stanick had a sense of déjà vu last night when he potted the OT winner for the second consecutive game with the previous game-winner coming against Brandon on Monday afternoon. That goal marked his 19th of the season where he now sits one back of a new career high.

Veteran Landon Kosior continued to build on his career season in last night’s victory where he added a goal and two assists. The three-point night was his fourth consecutive multi-point game as the night also saw him crack the 50-point plateau for the first time in his career.

Rookie Aiden Oiring shared the same stat line as Kosior in the contest where he tallied the game-tying goal last game to send it to overtime. So far in his first season, the 17-year-old has 11 goals and ten assists in 46 games played this season.
