Community Christmas Dinner returns this weekend in P.A.

After two years of delivering hampers because of COVID restrictions, Prince Albert’s Community Christmas Dinner is coming back.

The annual event will take place at St. Mary High School on Dec. 25, inviting those from the community who need a meal on Christmas to come over.

“We plan on feeding about 3,000 people,” Isabelle Impey, one of the organizers of the dinner, said. “We invite people to come and join us so they’re in one place and can enjoy the celebration with others.”

Impey said so far the preparations have gone well and she’s excited to host the dinner in person for the first time in a long time.

“The people in P.A. are just so good. When we do this, they’re always behind and supporting (us),” she said.

Aside from the dinner, there will also be a toy shop for the kids in attendance. Impey said they’ve also invited Ukrainian newcomers to the dinner and are organizing rides to bring them over.

Many volunteers have already stepped up to help with the dinner, but Impey said they can always use more.

“We never turn them down, they’re just the most important part of what we do. We need them,” she said.

For Impey, the event is more than just offering a free meal to those who want it on Christmas, it’s also a way to reach out to the community and let others know they’re not alone.

“For a lot of people, it’s a difficult time so they (volunteers) can spend time with them and just share,” she said. “Please come and join us. It’s really important for you to be there and join in the celebration of Christmas. There’s always lots of joy when you bring that many people together.”
