Hazard or helper? Prince Albert drivers experience rocky horror show

You’ve likely heard about the Bermuda Triangle or even the Ring of Fire in Hawaii, but a section of the Cornerstone Crossings parking lot in Prince Albert is gaining its own reputation for claiming unsuspecting victims.

For reasons not quite clear to the local businesses who occupy the area, a number of drivers have found themselves quite literally between a rock and a hard place.

Ian Litzenberger, team leader at the Lake Country Co-Op liquor store, estimated that over the past four years, there’s been upwards of 14 drivers who missed the curb and got hung up on the rock.

‘The ones we have noticed are definitely been because of some sort of distraction,” he said “The staff always get a pretty good laugh out of it. It’s kind of a running bet”

Explaining the rocks are placed where they are to help protect the curbs and greenery, Litzenberger said he was unsure what more could be done to alert drivers of the danger, beyond maybe putting some flags up.

Dalyn Charles, assistant team leader at Petsmart, said accidents have been happening mostly in the daytime, mornings, and afternoons. He recalled one incident that happened during the winter.

“There was one truck which I remember seeing. He slid into it which made more sense because he couldn’t physically stop himself. But in the summertime, I don’t know how people do it,” he said.

Makaela Stenske, manager at Party City, also described seeing multiple vehicles hung up on the rocks, and all of them were lifted trucks.

“They probably just try to go over that corner a little bit because they are big trucks, but then they get hung up on the rock,” she said

The area of the lot is coincidentally owned by Rock Developments. A request for comment was not replied to, in time for the publishing deadline.

When paNOW reached out to local autobody shops for comment, two confirmed they were aware of the rock stories, but could not say how many people had come into their respective businesses.
