New Councillor elected for District of Lakeland

The District of Lakeland Council has no more vacant seats.

Following Saturday’s by-election, John Stauffer was elected Div. 1 councillor. He received 129 votes.

Renee Reimer-Horner was runner up with 26, followed by John Ondrusek with 24, and Cindy Summach received 13 votes.

Stauffer replaces Treena McAlpine, who resigned last March.

In addition to her duties as councillor, McAlpine was also chair of a committee behind a proposed Environmental Stewardship Bylaw which included a number of measures to improve lake quality and preserve the shorelines. The bylaw passed with some modifications.
