A strong third quarter for the Saskatchewan Roughriders was the difference-maker as they defeated the Montreal Alouettes 41-20 in their Canada Day long weekend affair.

After trailing 13-8 at halftime and quarterback Cody Fajardo only completing seven of 15 passes, the Riders looked like a completely different team in the third.

Fajardo completed nine of 11 passes in the quarter, throwing for a touchdown and a two-point convert helping the Riders dominate Montreal. Fajardo’s touchdown pass was one of three touchdowns scored in the quarter. He finished the game completing 18 of 29 passes and throwing for two touchdowns and 224 yards.

Running back Jamal Morrow rushed for 85 yards and scored a touchdown and two-point convert in the third. He would finish the game with 103 yards rushing on 16 carries.

Slotback Duke Williams left the game briefly late in the second quarter after an injury. While he did return in the second half, Kian Schaffer-Baker stepped up and posted 76 yards and a touchdown receiving. Schaffer-Baker finished the game with 90 yards in receiving.

The Riders defense had five sacks in the victory. Anthony Lanier II led the way with three sacks.

Saskatchewan now holds a record of 3-1.
