STARS Critical Care on the Air radiothon right around the corner

The two-day radiothon to support STARS Air Ambulance is returning to Saskatchewan for the second year.

On April 13 and 14, the Critical Care on the Air radiothon will be broadcasted over 37 radio stations in the province in support of STARS.

It will begin at 6:00 a.m. and end at 6:00 p.m. and will raise funds for the purchase of new butterfly ultrasound machines and ongoing operations of the Saskatoon and Regina STARS locations.

“Our first-ever radiothon last year was an incredible success, thanks to the generosity of Saskatchewanians,” said Terri Strunk, STARS’ chief fundraising and brand officer in a media release. “We can’t wait to once again share with listeners inspiring mission stories from STARS crew, patients and their families – life-saving missions our supporters make possible.”

Per day on average, STARS completes eight missions across Western Canada and had 901 in Saskatchewan last year. About 50 per cent of their funds come from the provincial government with the rest of the $10.5 million annually funded by the STARS foundation through fundraisers.

Four VIP patients – Cheryl Dubois, Morgan Miller, Draedon Faubert and Mike Herbison have been raising funds to give back after receiving care from STARS. Dubois explained she was transported by STARS after she was in a serious vehicle collision. Her daughter was also with her.

“If I wouldn’t have gotten to the operating room that quickly I would have died,” recalled Dubois. “I am grateful every day for the life that I still have, and it is only possible because of STARS being there for me. We are so lucky to have STARS in Saskatchewan!”

Those looking to donate can call the Viterra Lifeline at 1-877-507-8277 during the radiothon or can go to criticalcareontheair.ca.

Radiothon sponsor BHP will match the first $50,000 of donations made on April 13, and GMS will match the first $50,000 of donations made on April 14. As well, every time the hashtag #STARScareontheair is used on social media channels, Stride Management will donate $100 up to $10,000.
