Man accused of assault at P.A. business has case adjourned to March

A man accused of punching a woman repeatedly for allegedly not following COVID related protocols was not present for his first scheduled court appearance Thursday afternoon at Prince Albert Provincial Court.

Instead his lawyer requested and was granted an adjournment to March 31, in order to have time to review evidence and statements, collected by police.

Darryl E. Gray, 71, is facing a single charge of assault for the incident that was reported on Feb. 1.

Roma Carson, the complainant, spoke to paNOW the following day, and described how while out shopping she was approached twice by a stranger, who took issue with her for allegedly not following the arrows on the floor. She said the man pushed her into a nearby shelving unit.

Carson went on to explain when she yelled at the man, telling him to take his hands off her, he knocked the phone out of her hand and proceeded to punch her multiple times in the back of the head, and even pulled her jacket over her head.

“He just kept swinging,” Carson said. “I was just trying to get him off of me and was yelling and screaming.”

After being confronted by store employees, the man walked out of the store and drove away. An image of the suspect was released soon after by police, and last week, they confirmed they had made an arrest.
