Mintos run into hot Rebels prospect goaltender in defeat to Contacts

Feb 10, 2022 | 11:14 AM

The Prince Albert Mintos ran into a pretty hot goaltender on Wednesday in their 3-2 defeat to the Saskatoon Contacts.

Chase Wutzke, who defeated the Prince Albert Raiders on Dec. 29 after getting called up by the Red Deer Rebels, made 32 saves on 34 shots to defeated the Mintos.

All five goals of the game were scored in the second period, with Zach Moore and Braden Nienaber scoring for the Contacts within the first nine minutes. Ryland Martin got the Mintos on the board with a power play goal at the 12-minute mark, but Carter Mason restored the Contacts’ two-goal lead four minutes later.

Van Taylor would get the Mintos within striking distance, but that’s as close as the Mintos would get. Martin also got an assist on Taylor’s goal.

The Mintos are back in action on Friday against the Tisdale Trojans, hosting them at the Art Hauser Centre, before taking on the Yorkton Maulers, also at home, on Sunday.
