‘We’re all hurting for him’: mother pleads for answers regarding son’s disappearance

Shirley Bear says she has no idea where her son is, nor why he may be connected to a serious incident in Prince Albert’s midtown area.

Byron Lee Bear, 27, has not been seen since the early morning of Dec. 6, and was reported missing by his mother. Shirley told paNOW this is the first time her son has not come home.

“He’s always phoned us and let us know where he is. He’d call us even when he gets up and say mom I’m up, I’ll be home right away,” she said.

The same day as Bear’s disappearance, Prince Albert police responded to the 300 block of Ninth St. E., where they found evidence of a serious assault but no victims were found. They explained they had responded around 4 a.m., after a report of gunshots. Two days later, they indicated Byron may have been at the residence prior to police arrival. Shirley has no information about that.

“No, I don’t know anything,” she said, adding she had spoken to her son earlier that morning but he made no mention what his plans were, nor if he was in any sort of trouble.

“We’re all hurting for him and this is the first time he hasn’t called us to come home and it’s been too long,” she said.

At the time of his disappearance, Byron was working to complete training to become a medical taxi driver, Shirley explained. He also has a nine-year-old daughter who, now just days before Christmas, does not know where her daddy is.

“She’s taking it very hard. She didn’t even know he was missing until somebody approached her and asked her ‘did they find your dad yet,” Shirley explained.

Family members have reached out across social media for information. (Facebook)

In an effort to create further awareness about her son’s disappearance, Shirley is asking anyone with information, no matter how small the detail, to call police or Crime Stoppers.

On Tuesday, a spokesperson for the Prince Albert Police Service could only confirm the investigations into the assault and Bear’s disappearance were ongoing.
