Young Raiders fan to have jersey creation worn by team Friday night

A long time Prince Albert Raiders fan will have his jersey design featured this Friday night against the Red Deer Rebels after he won the Canadian Hockey League’s Leave Your Mark Design a Jersey Contest by Real Canadian Superstore.

Aiden Edwards, 17, won with his design of the Prince Albert Raiders jersey featuring the P.A. city skyline at the bottom of the jersey. This Friday the Raiders will be wearing the young mans design on the ice for the community to see.

“The whole point of it is because when you drive in from up north or coming back from Little Red or most of the lakes, there’s a little crack and you can see the city and you can see all the trees. It just reminded me of that,” Edwards told paNOW adding another reason behind the design is being the gateway to the north.

Edwards said designing jerseys and graphic design is a passion of his as he has designed logos, posters and jerseys for local teams from his computer.

“The Raiders have just been my favourite team since I was little because I’m from P.A. and I thought it would be a cool idea just to make one because I saw they’d be wearing it. Seems like a sweet opportunity,” he said.

He explained he never thought he would see his design worn by his favourite team and explained he was “pumped” to find out he won. He has been going to games since he was younger and has seen many players pass though the program including Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl.

He also recently got to interview Raiders captain Kaiden Guhle and will be at the game this Friday.

“It was cool to talk to him, especially [since] he got drafted to Montreal at the time,” he said.

The game worn jerseys will be auctioned off with all proceeds being donated to President’s Choice Children’s Charity in the fight against childhood hunger. The jerseys will be available at 32auctions.com on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at noon for the online portion. The online auction will end of Friday at 5 p.m. and any jerseys not purchased will be auctioned off by silent auction during the game.
