Carlton and St. Mary to meet in Div. 2 football final

Oct 28, 2021 | 12:10 PM

It will be an all Prince Albert battle for the Division 2 High School football title after impressive semi-final wins Wednesday night.

The St. Mary Marauders and Carlton Crusaders won their Division 2 semis and will meet in the championship game next week.

The Marauders jumped out to a big lead over Evan Hardy, leading 22-0 at halftime, eventually closing out the Souls 39-0.

In the second semi-final, Carlton had a 14-0 lead by halftime before the Stars started mounting a comeback with a third-quarter touchdown to cut the deficit to 14-7. That’s as close as the Bethlehem Catholic High School would get as the Crusaders scored a couple more majors to take the game 28-12.

St. Mary and Carlton will now face each other in the Division 2 final on Nov. 4.

This will be the first matchup between the two teams this season after the annual Canadian Tire Classic, scheduled for Oct. 8, was cancelled due to a “COVID-19 situation”.

Kickoff for the championship is set for 6:30 p.m. at Max Clunie Field.
