The Go Fund Me page states that Konkel is a carpenter who relies heavily on his hands to provide for his family and as such has now left his five boys and fiancé financially insecure. The youngest in the family is almost one month old.

The family lives in a farmhouse near Stump Lake, just south of Prince Albert National Park. The house is run primarily on wood heat so donations of firewood are also being accepted for the family, along with freezer meals.
