List of active fires grows in the province over weekend

A recent update from the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) is reporting additional fires in the province.

As of July 31, there were 119 fires active wildfires in the province: 17 uncontained, eight that were listed as contained, 76 under ongoing assessment and property protection efforts on the rest of the 18 fires.

In a recent update from SPSA, as of Aug. 2 at 10 a.m. there are now 128 active fires in the province; 16 that are not contained, 11 that are listed as contained and 18 fires where property is being protected. The other 83 fires are continually being accessed.

SPSA is making the public aware of three fires of note in Northern Saskatchewan.

The Mine fire north of Grandmother’s Bay is a 4,237.0 type one supports in place with helicopter support and air tanker support. Grandmother’s Bay and Missinipe are within 20 kilometres of the fire and Highway 102, Grandmother’s Bay access road, Churchill River Campground and Devil Lake Campground are being noted as properties of value within the vicinity.

The Harding fire north of Smeaton is currently 23,319.0 ha. in size. Type one, two and three crews with air tanker and helicopter and heavy equipment supports in place. Highway 106 and the south end of Narrow Hills Provincial Park are both being listed as properties of value.

The Bell fire north of Hudson Bay is currently 30,482.9 ha. in size. Type one, two and three crews with air tanker and helicopter and heavy equipment supports in place. Wildcat Hill Provincial Park, Highway 9 to the east, Highway 55 to the north and Highway 3 to the south are being listed as properties of value in the area.

As of approximately 10:50 a.m. today, the SPSA continues to have heat and air quality advisories in place across Northern Saskatchewan. Some areas will see some temperature moderation on Tuesday while other areas will not feel heat relief until Wednesday.
