Royals’ couldn’t heat up bats against strong A’s pitching
A week after their most lopsided defeat of the season against the Saskatoon Athletics in a 16-3 loss, the Prince Albert Royals had a much better go of it on Tuesday. But it still wasn’t enough to get the win, as the Royals couldn’t get their bats going in a 6-1 defeat at Andy Zwack Field in SPBL U-18 AA action.
The Royals were within striking distance for the first three innings as they were just trailing by a run before the Athletics scored four in the top of the fourth inning to run away with the game.
The Athletics’ pitching staff were able to record 18 of their 21 outs by strikeout, as Kael Flynn struck out 12 batters in five scoreless innings of work, while Stratton Mair struck out six batters in two innings while giving up the Royals’ lone run.
Jack Mortimer and Cody Morash were the only Royals to register hits. Mortimer doubled to centre field in the bottom of the sixth inning to score Brady Robin, who got on base with a walk.
