Senior care facilities host parade to spread cheer among residents

As a way to give back to the community for rallying together during the Cloverdale fire, the Red River Roping and Riding Arena held a parade last night at senior care facilities across the city.

There were lots of smiles, plenty of waves, and a little bit of horse manure along the way.

For one Herb Bassett Home resident, 82-year-old Jack Bear that was not a problem.

“I come from La Ronge where there are all those trees, I miss the trees all around me like it is in La Ronge,” Bear said. “But I am glad I am here.”

“I was born on a farm, and I had my own horse a long time ago. I like watching the horses. This is the second time that I’ve been here where they have had horses go by. They had them go by one other time, but that was last year. That was nice. I like horses, I like animals.”

The Red River Roping and Riding Arena was very thankful to the community for all their help evacuating animals on their property during the fire last month and thought this would be a good way to spread some cheer and give back as well.

The club went by the Herb Bassett Home, Pineview, and Mont St. Joseph.

Candice Sinitoski, director of the Red River Riding and Roping Arena explained what the parade was all about.

“We did this at Christmas time for the seniors, this is kind of the first time they can be outside and sit along the sidelines, so we decided to do it again,” Sinitoski said. “This will be a fun parade for the seniors.”

The parade was planned before the fire but they wanted to wait until now so the seniors could be outside to watch it.

“We just want to give back to the community for supporting us and helping us out and who better to that with than our seniors,” Sinitoski said.

There will be another parade at Herb Bassett Home this month. On June 17 at 7 p.m. motorcycle riders from Prince Albert and across the province will parade by the senior care centre during the “Ride by Prince Albert” event.
