Animals return to the Red River Riding and Roping Arena after evacuation Monday

The staff at the Red River Riding and Roping Arena are happy to be home Thursday after they were told to evacuate amid the Cloverdale fire northeast of Prince Albert.

President Candice Sinitoski told paNOW they made the proactive decision to transport the cattle and most of the horses Monday afternoon to Northern Livestock in P.A. after the blaze started not too far from the arena. The rest of the horses temporarily went home to their owners while others went to an acreage.

“It was kind of a stressful couple of days, but we just got through it and now we’re back home,” Sinitoski said.

She expressed her gratitude for those who helped them out and the staff at the arena. In total, they moved 30 cattle and 22 horses.

“The guys who came and got the cattle got them out I think in their units right away and it was done very quickly, very efficiently and very safely,” she said.

“The staff at the arena just went into work mode, one of them manned the phones because we put out a request for help.”

Flaman Sales and Rentals offered them trailers to use and other people offered hay and everything else they may have needed. They eventually had to turn away the help.

“The animals themselves get stressed under all of these different changes so it’s just good to have them back here now where we can let them settle in and it’ll be good,” Sinitoski said.
