MELFORT, Sask. — Construction is underway at the fertilizer SuperCenter location at Belle Plain, Sask.

The Genesis Grain & Fertilizer project is owned by more than 650 farmer-investors.

Genesis president Jason Mann said the project has experienced some delays but all is going well.

“Working together with our construction partners Folk, Marcus, Sackett-Waconia and Clifton Engineering when the facility is commissioned, Genesis’s farmer-owners will have one of the most advanced fertilizer distribution centers in Western Canada,” Mann said.

Located in the Moose Jaw to Regina corridor, the Belle Plaine SuperCenter is the first of seven planned fertilizer facilities across the prairie provinces.

Rocky Mountain Equipment (RME) has launched a grant program to support prairie agricultural societies and communities.

The RME Right by You Ag Society Grant will contribute funding to four agricultural societies in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba to support local projects.

Chief sales and operations officer Jim Wood said RME business is based in rural communities and the company is committed to supporting the areas they serve.

“Ag societies have long been a cornerstone of their communities and we want to support their efforts, not only during the economic challenges they currently face, but into the future as well, ” Wood said.

The program will award four grants worth $10,000 each.

Agricultural societies must apply to the grant program to be considered for the funding. Applications close July 30 with the successful applicants announced Sept. 30.
