Raiders back at it in the ‘dubble,’ taking on exceptional Bedard and rest of Pats

After an encouraging start of getting five out of a possible six points, the Prince Albert Raiders have just one point to show for their last three contests.

That was highlighted on Monday in a 5-2 defeat to the Swift Current Broncos, a team that was on a 23-game losing streak dating back to last year.

The Raiders will hope to get that bad taste out of their mouths when they face the Regina Pats on Thursday at 4 p.m.

The Pats are 1-3-2 to start the year as the Subway Hub Centre hosts at the Brandt Centre.

In their lone meeting this year, Raiders defeated the Pats 6-3 on the opening day of the WHL East Division competition March 12.

Max Paddock got the victory, a 28-save performance against his former team. Ozzy Wiesblatt and Reece Vitelli both had a goal and two helpers in the victory for the Raiders. Evan Herman had a goal and an assist, and Remy Aquilon had a pair of assists.

The Pats’ exceptional phenom Connor Bedard scored his first and second WHL goals in the contest, 48 seconds apart in the second period to get the Pats back in the game. Although he’s still 15 years old, Bedard already has five goals and 10 points in six games. He registered a point on 55.5 per cent of all Pats goals scored this season, the highest percentage in all WHL Eastern Conference players.

Green and Goldsmith

It’s not easy to add players nowadays, but the Raiders were able to ad affiliate player Terrell Goldsmith, their first round pick in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft, to their roster.

Goldsmith is the 6’3, 214-pound defenceman who cleared all protocols put in place from the Saskatchewan Health Authority and the Western Hockey League, and is immediately available to play. The Raiders have been left with just six healthy blueliners after captain Kaiden Guhle injured his hand on March 14 against the Moose Jaw Warriors. Guhle will be out indefinitely with that hand injury.
