Candle Lake shooting victim laid to rest

Sep 18, 2020 | 2:06 PM

A 14-year-old boy shot and killed in Candle Lake earlier this month will be laid to rest Friday afternoon.

The private service for Chase Althouse has been scheduled to take place at the Candle Lake Community Hall at 2 p.m. In accordance with social distancing protocols and for the benefit of Althouse’s many friends expected to attend, speakers will be set up outdoors.

Althouse, a student at Meath Park school, was killed last Saturday night by his mother’s boyfriend during what has been described by RCMP as a domestic dispute. The initial incident took place at the residence of Althouse’s sister’s boyfriend.

The shooter, Troy Thompson, 49, fled from the residence and was found dead the next morning at another residence, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A GoFundMe to assist the family with funeral expenses has raised nearly $4,000.

“Any additional funds will be used towards purchasing a gaming system to a child who could not otherwise afford one. This is in tribute to Chase who loved gaming, who loved to give and was beyond generous,” a statement on the page read.
