COVID-19 outbreak at Victoria Hospital declared over

May 8, 2020 | 10:09 AM

The COVID-19 outbreak at the Prince Albert Victoria Hospital is now over according to the Saskatchewan Health Authority.

The outbreak was initially declared on April 30 after an inpatient tested positive for the virus.

According to a media release by the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA), Medical Health Officer Dr. Khami Chokani declared the outbreak over after no additional cases were found. Both health care workers and patients were tested for the virus after a 10-day exposure period.

“This is a definite testimony to diligent PPE use and good environmental maintenance by all the teams,” Chokani stated in the release.

The patient was in the hospital for a period of time, but it was unknown they were infected. After the positive test, every worker who was in contact with the patient began self isolating. Public health officials started a contract tracing investigation immediately.
