Ottawa Redblacks re-sign Brown, Evans ahead of CFL free agency deadline

OTTAWA — The Ottawa Redblacks signed linebacker Kevin Brown and defensive back Randall Evans to one-year extensions Tuesday.

Both Americans were scheduled to become CFL free agents later Tuesday.

Brown had 42 tackles, 13 special-team tackles and an interception in 15 games with Ottawa last year. He recorded 55 tackles, 13 special-teams tackles, two sacks and an interception with the Redblacks in 2018.

Evans registered 56 tackles and 12 special-teams tackles in 17 regular-season games last season. He had played just six games the previous two years with Hamilton and Ottawa.

 

Kilgore signs extension with Eskimos

EDMONTON — The Edmonton Eskimos signed quarterback Logan Kilgore to a one-year contract extension Tuesday.

Kilgore was scheduled to become a free agent later Tuesday.

Kilgore started eight of Edmonton’s 18 regular-season games last year, completing 114-of-174 passes for 1,199 yards with six touchdowns. He also ran 18 times for 60 yards and three TDs.

 

Wynn re-signs with Hamilton Tiger-Cats

HAMILTON — Dylan Wynn is staying put.

The veteran defensive lineman signed a contract extension with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Tuesday, less than an hour before he was scheduled to become a free agent.

Wynn made the formal announcement on his Twitter account, that is, after opening the segment saying he’d signed with the XFL. But then Wynn said he was joking and donned a Ticats hat before rocking out to AC/DC’s Back in Black.

The six-foot-two, 283-pound Wynn had a career-best 11 sacks with Hamilton last season.

 

Stampeders sign free-agent punter Pfeffer

CALGARY — The Calgary Stampeders signed Canadian kicker/punter Ronnie Pfeffer on Tuesday.

Pfeffer, of Kitchener, Ont., fills a need for the Stampeders, who lost veteran punter Rob Maver to retirement this off-season. He accepted the Stampeders’ qualifying offer during the free-agent negotiation window.

The five-foot-10, 180-pound Pfeffer spent time previously with the Toronto Argonauts and Ottawa Redblacks. He sports a 44.6-yard career punting average and 36-yard net. He has also booted 16 career field goals and 14 converts and averaged 60.3 yards on 65 kickoffs.

 

Peters signs two-year extension with Lions

VANCOUVER — American defensive back Garry Peters signed a two-year contract extension with the B.C. Lions on Tuesday.

Peters was eligible to become a CFL free agent later Tuesday.

Peters had 63 tackles, four interceptions and a forced fumble last season with B.C..
