Small cannabis production facility proposed for local R.M.

Feb 10, 2020 | 8:52 AM

A proposed new cannabis production facility (micro) in the Rural Municipality of Buckland is on the agenda for the RM’s council meeting Monday and will be discussed during a public hearing.

In 2019, the R.M. passed Bylaw 1/2019, introducing Cannabis Production Facilities as a discretionary use in Agriculture Districts.

Cannabis Production Facilities are facilities approved under federal and provincial regulations that are used for the planting, cultivation, testing, harvesting, processing and distribution of cannabis plants. As a discretionary use, the application which relates to a micro facility would be approved or denied at the discretion of the RM Council

The applicant intends to utilize the existing greenhouse on his property for growing cannabis. Notice has been sent to all properties within close proximity.

The decision is far from final and council said it will also consider written comments received at the hearing, or delivered to the undersigned at the RM Office before the hearing at 1:40 p.m.
