The Prince Albert Mintos welcomed Gabe Klassen back with open arms this weekend.

Klassen returned from the WHL’s Portland Winterhawks in time to score three goals and an assist in the pair of Mintos’ wins at the Warman Showcase.

Klassen scored the game winning goal against the Saskatoon Blazers in a 3-2 victory on Friday. Then Klassen led the Mintos with two goals and an assist in a 7-2 win over the Notre Dame Argos on Saturday.

Although the Mintos got a huge boost on the weekend in seeing last year’s leading scorer return to the team, Klassen was hardly the only Minto that had a standout weekend.

Spencer Welke made 36 saves on 38 shots for the win on Saturday against the Blazers.

Turner McMillen had a pair of goals against the Argos.

The Mintos have started the year off with a 4-0 record. The Mintos continue their season with a pair of road games against the Saskatoon Contacts on Oct. 3 and the Blazers on Oct. 9. The next home games for the Mintos are slated for Oct. 12 against the Regina Pat Canadians and Oct. 13 against the Tisdale Trojans.
