Raiders trade reunites Pachal with lifelong friend

“He always played a year up. Obviously he’s a special player,” Pachal said. “I played with him ever since our first year of hockey when he was three and I was four.”

Like Fonstad, the rest of the Raiders are a young and rebuilding bunch. Pachal is excited to be a part of the rebuilding process and hopes to play a significant role with the club.

“I want to be a big part,” Pachal said. “It’s a young team, so I feel I can come in and be a big part of the team and help them out right now and down the road.”

As a defenceman, Pachal had three assists in 35 games with the Royals this year. He scored a goal and six helpers in 40 games as a rookie with the Royals last year.

Rich bloodlines

Pachal comes from a family with storied hockey achievements.

His dad’s cousin Clayton won two Memorial Cups for the New Westminster Bruins in 1977 and 1978 and was a first round draft choice by the Boston Bruins in 1976.

Pachal’s grandfather Vern played for the Springfield Indians from 1951 to 1954, back when the team was owned by the infamous Eddie Shore.
