Orange shirts designed by Carpenter are available at the Prince Albert Tourism Centre. The city said sales are being made on behalf of the Indian and Métis Friendship Centre.

Businesses and organizations can also borrow an Orange Shirt Day stencil for windows or sidewalks by calling the Margo Fournier Arts Centre at 306-953-4811.

The Prince Albert Raiders will be wearing Orange Jerseys on Sept. 30 when they face off against the Red Deer Rebels at the Art Hauser Centre to commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Orange Shirt Day grew from the story of Phyllis Webstad, whose new orange shirt was taken from her on her first day at a residential school. The day carries the message that Every Child Matters.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation became a federal statutory holiday in 2021. Prince Albert has recognized Sept. 30 as a paid holiday for city employees since that year.

City Hall will be closed Sept. 30, and some city facilities may have reduced hours, however, city transit will operate.

Shellbrook, Beardy’s and other NDTR events

The community of Shellbrook has planned it’s 4th annual Truth and Reconciliation Walk. The event begins at WP Sandin High School gymnasium at 10 a.m. with First Nations Knowledge Keepers offering opening remarks. The walk will then proceed down Main Street. After the walk is completed, there will be a community BBQ happening at Evergreen Oasis to continue fellowship and conversation.

ᐯᒥᐢᑲ Pêmiska Tourism and Beardy’s and Okemasis Cree Nation are holding a unique event to mark NDTR. A free ATV journey through the land will provide an opportunity to listen, learn and ‘move through history together.’ Seats are available at no cost, but space is limited.
