Lowell has become a hurricane in the Pacific and is forecast to further strengthen into a major hurricane.
The storm’s maximum sustained winds Tuesday morning had increased to 80 mph ((130 kph).
Hurricane Lowell was centered about 575 miles (925 kilometers) southeast of Hilo, Hawaii, and was moving west-northwest at 12 mph (19 kph).
