Royals, Padres fall short during provincial tournaments as other PA teams wrap up season
Both of Prince Albert’s baseball teams in the U18 AA division returned home empty handed from their respective provincial tournaments this past weekend.
The Royals were competing at the Tier 1 championship in Regina, while the Padres were at the Tier 2 championship down the road in Moose Jaw.
The Royals were the fifth seed in the tournament and narrowly dropped the first two games in their run, falling 5-3 to the #1-seeded Regina Blue Jays on Friday afternoon and 6-5 to the #4-seeded Sask Five Giants on Saturday morning. The two losses put them out of contention for the four-team playoff, however, they finished their provincial run on a high note with a 19-13 win over the #8-seeded Regina Wolfpack Saturday afternoon.
“One thing that stood out all weekend was the character of this group,” read a post to the team’s Facebook page. “Whether things were going their way or not, they kept competing, supported one another, held their heads high, and represented Prince Albert with pride. That’s something to be proud of.”
