After going hitless with three strikeouts at the plate in the tournament opener against the Blue Jays, Jaxson Robertson found his groove in game two and led the team in offensive production, totaling a team-high eight RBIs with four runs on five hits, along with a walk and another strikeout, in eight at-bats. His tournament was highlighted by a pair of home runs during their high-scoring win over the Wolfpack. 

Although, provincially, the Royals season is over, the team will return to the field next month as hosts of the 18U AA Tier 1 Western Canadian Baseball Championships from Aug. 14-16. The championships will also see the U13 and U15 Tier 1 Royals teams host their own respective Western tournaments during that same weekend.

Meanwhile, the Padres made it to championship Sunday while in Moose Jaw but ultimately fell short against the Lumsden Cubs. Before that, though, the team dominated pool play as the #2-seeded team in the tournament. 

In their first game on Friday evening, the Padres steamrolled the #7-seeded host Moose Jaw Canucks 15-3, before cruising past the #6-seeded Regina White Sox 7-2 on Saturday morning. The Padres ended the round robin on a sour note later that afternoon following an 8-7 loss to the #4-seeded White Butte Broncos. Their championship hopes came to an end on Sunday morning when #1-seeded Lumsden toppled Prince Albert in a 20-12 final.  

Drew Schultz led the hitting statistics for the Padres in Moose Jaw, knocking in a combined seven RBIs in the first two games of the championship. He finished the tournament with eight total RBIs with five runs on five hits while walking once and striking out twice in 11 at-bats.  

Royals take silver at U11 championships 

Other teams within Prince Albert Minor Baseball (PAMB) have also wrapped up the season as provincial tournaments around the province come to a close. 

In U11, Nathan Noble’s squad captured silver while hosting the Tier 6 championships at Mair Park in Prince Albert after dropping a 13-3 contest to the Turtleford Tigers. Meanwhile, Jordan Ambrose’s team travelled to North Battleford for the Tier 1 championships where they lost all three of their games in the round robin. 

In U13, Curtis Bradbury’s team hosted the Tier 4 tournament at Crescent Acres Park, where the team fell 14-4 in the semifinals to the Kindersley Royals. Tommy Hurd’s team also dropped their semifinal contest in the Tier 1 tournament, 6-3 to the host Humboldt Dodgers. 

Just one team was competing in the U15 division, where Matt Gray’s team travelled to Martensville for the Tier 1 championship. There, the TLS Royals dropped all three of their round robin contests. 

As mentioned, Hurd’s U13 team and Gray’s U15 team will be back in action next month for the Tier 1 Western Championships in P.A., alongside the U18 Royals squad.
